Choices... Life is full of them. Some are easy. Some are great. Some are delicious. And some are all of these. Such is the choices you have with the Maryland blue crab. Ya catch'em, collect'em, steam'em (with Old Bay Seasoning of course), and then the culinary adventure begins.
The choices... Steamed crab feast... broiled crab cakes, pan fried crab cakes, crab balls, red crab soup, cream of crab soup, and crab dip made with wonderful cheese blends. Our if you prefer, deep fried crabs, or pan fried soft shell crabs. Then there's crab Imperial, deviled crab, and crab as a topping on any kind of fish or other meat... even crab on veggies all with an almost endless variety of sauces. The entirely edible crab that has endless possibilities. As a child, crabs were plentiful and less expensive... $6 a dozen for small, $8 mediums, $10 large, and $12 for jumbo. I remember crab feasts... all you can eat for $6.95. Today you can easily spend $45 for a dozen smalls, $60 for mediums, $80 for large, and $90+ for jumbo.
Nevertheless, crabs is something that you still have to do, no matter the cost, but just less frequently. Absolute delightful treat, and a Maryland summertime tradition. So what goes along with the steamed crab feast? Ya gotta have fresh corn & tomatoes. Additional sides include several choices, salad, mozzarella sticks, fried pickles, boardwalk fries, onion rings, and maybe even some steamed shrimp. Keep that can of Old Bay seasoning handy... shake & sprinkle! Don't forget the cold watermelon slices.
