Perspective... Sooner or later...

At some point in the future the tension directly between  the US and China was or will boil over about China advancing in the pacific... which would be a direct confrontation between the two world powers, no doubt with more dire consequences. It's like a chess game to keep China in check. First Venezuela now Iran.

Will it work without escalating to a direct conflict between China and the US... Unknown. 
Conventional warfare is likely verses nuclear.

Nuclear war, the whole planet loses and nobody wins.

So it's smaller steps, smaller chess moves.

 If countries could exist with the status quo...

Not looking to expand taking over other countries...

going on the offense, there would be no need for defensive postures to counter act offensive take overs.
