School occupied our time from 7am until 4pm weekdsys inclusive to the 1- 1/2 mile walk to and from school every day. 4-9pm was play time except for supper. Playtime was almost always outside. Weekend playtime was outside from 8am to 9pm. A neighborhood full of kids gave us lots of social time. Not only was it fun but the side benefit was that we developed social skills that would serve us well in adult life. Well, most of us anyway.
~~~~~ Spring forward to today ~~~~~
Kids today seemed to be occupied with lots of drama. Social skills consist of drama and controversy on social media. A product of the me generation that are offended by everything and everyone else is rude. That sums up 90% of their existence. Hope they grow out of this. Couple failing social skills with the the whole self idenity issues in relation to personal relationships and even gender status. Throw in all the heavy issues that are in their face everyday on social media... politics, racism, prejudice, violence, gay rights, and moral issues from all sides... It's enough to make your head explode. They don't even have the chance to grow up as kids having fun.
We had more as kids growing up with nothing than kids today that have everything and loose their childhood to social media and all the problems of the world.
Funny... and our parents thought that television was a bad influence on us. How everything has changed... for the better and for the worse. Emotionally socially negatively influenced by a changing world.
