Wow... Compared to growing up from the 50s... wow... in touch with everyone and everything. It's all at your finger tips. And despite all the positive, there's a grave negative the threatens the well being of society.
First there was face to face personal interaction... You could see the other person's reactions and emotions to the conversation... see their body language allowing for more clearier understanding. As you each talked there was a greater understanding of each others exact thoughts and feelings. You could see their facial expressions and their emotions and reactions... and if something was misunderstood you could effectively & immediately correct it with personal contact.
You developed & refined your social skills.
You developed & refined your social skills.
Then came the telephone... an effective way to communicate when not actually being with that person. You could still hear the tone of their voice to ensure good communication. Not as effective as in person, but still good communication leaving less room for misunderstandings.
Now we have texting. A great tool for communication... but with lots of negative side effects. No personal face to face connection... no ability to see body language or read facial expressions... which lends itself to much more miscommunications and misunderstandings, generally resulting in better hard feelings. Texting about serious matters generally yields poor results. Then there's the fact that people will text things that they would not normally say face to face with others... especially if it's about something controversial.
Now there's a whole generation of kids growing up behind the twenty year olds that have diminished social skills that will soon be thrown into the real world already filled with the "its all about me generation".
People that can not consider any thing that doesn't fit with their wants and preferences. People that are offended by everything that isn't in line with how they think it should be. People that will argue that they are not only entitled to their beliefs, but that you should believe as they do... and they will find fault with you if you don't. People that think everything is unfair if it differs from their perspective. People that object to and belittle others feelings if they differ from theirs. People that have never learned the concept of live & let live. People that are right about everything, and if you disagree, then you are wrong. People that have never developed the social skills to simply get along.
Who would have thought... it could or would get this bad. People lacking in social skills, feed by their own ego, showing no restraint or remorse about anything they say or do. Having little or no consideration for others, especially strangers. Need I mention that this also fuels social unrest and prejudice.
I guess each preceding generation has always seen the faults of the younger generation... but I don't believe it was ever this detrimental to society as a whole. The fabric of society being pulled apart.
But... That's just my perspective. Take from it what you will. Agree or disagree... just something to hopefully think about. My posts are not to make you think as me... but simply to think.
