Inconceivable... That's all that comes to mind. The role of Spock in the original Star Trek series was portrayed by Leonard Nimoy... who was absolutely perfect for the role. What was inconceivable was Gene Roddenberry's original first choice for the role was George Lindsay "Goober" from Andy Griffith Show. By any stretch of the imagination I just can't see that.
But clearly, everything worked out for the best.
