I've always appreciated the beauty of nature. Somewhat limited most of my adult working life... weekends and vacations. Mountains, beaches, islands, lakes, woods, and country drives. Once retired I had lots of free time to enjoy everything that nature has to offer. Traveled countless places in our rv enjoying it all. Every place holds special memories. We loved the beach so much that we stayed at Navarre Beach Florida calling it home for three years... Sunrises, sunsets, and the beach & water... Absolutely wonderful.
Of late, we are enjoying the Virginia countryside. Our home base for now is in the farm country of the Piedmont Valley just outside the small town of Culpeper. Peace & quiet... so relaxing. It's a short trip to go to Shenandoah National Park. The park is part of the Blue Ridge / Appalachian Mountains. We enjoy car rides on Skyline Drive that criss-crosses the mountain peaks offering overlook views to the east, the Piedmont Valley... and to the west overlooking Shenandoah Valley and the mountains beyond. Skyline Drive runs for 105 miles across the mountain top. Contained within the park is part of the legendary Appalachian Trail. Not only can you hike the A.T. but there are hundreds of miles of hiking trails to enjoy nature to its fullest. Trails, tree, wildlife, and waterfalls.
Of all the places we have been, this holds a special place in my heart.
Here's a little history and some photos.
