Triple word score... Misty Mountain Morning. Okay, I cheated a bit, its actually late afternoon approaching dusk.
Bright sunny warm days are usually preferred... but every season and weather condition gives you a unique perspective on the beauty of nature. Call it the mist, or fog, or perhaps more appropriately clouds... since we're on top of the Appalachian Mountains in Shenandoah National Park on Skyline Drive. Still beautiful watching the mist rolling across the meadows and up over the mountain side, descending over the trees, across the roads, it gives you a peaceful feeling where everything is suspended in a quiet stillness. Deer seem to be oblivious to your presents as they walk carefree in the quietness. As you slowly move, they stop and watch you, then slowly slip away into the mist. The mist beads up on the leaves of trees and plants until they can not hold any more, before dripping like rain gently falling to the ground. Nature... no cars, or people, seemingly just you alone with nature. Listen carefully... you can actually hear the mist gently playfully rustling leaves on the trees. It touches your face with a moist coolness as you wonder how it could possibly be so quiet... the stillness is deafening and absolute. You wish you could stay longer to enjoy this unexpected spectacle of nature ... but as darkness falls you either need to settle in for the night, or drive a dark winding road down the mountain. But it was certainly worth it all. Just another visit to the mountain top. Stop to enjoy nature when ever you can... it renews your soul. Y'all have a great day.
