When I was a kid... barely half way into the last century... we had lots of choices for candy that we could get for a mere penny. One red cent that we could usually find on the ground somewhere. Or pick up empty soda bottles and return to the store for the 2 cent deposit. Penny candy now costs 50 cents. I realize what my grandfather would say way back then, when a loaf of bread was the outrageous price of 20 cents.
