History

A day of fun with the whole family at the Steven F. Udvey- Hazy Center in Virginia.  The  companion Air & Space Museum to the Smithsonian in Washington DC. Planes from every era. It's like the history of flight from the Wright brothers to the space shuttle. Way too much to take in on one short visit.  War planes, commercial planes, experimental planes, planes that look like they could refuel and take off, planes that look like they should have never flew. Planes that made history, and those you never heard of. Planes that stole the show... the Concorde... the SR-71 Blackbird... the Enola Gay... and the Space Shuttle Discovery. The Boeing 307 Stratoliner flown by Pan American Airways was quite impressive to for 1938.  Going into the Space hanger there are lots of artifacts and spacecraft ... But basically alI I saw was the Discovery Shuttle. Got to return several times to truly absorb it all. Shuttle Discovery... not restored like Shuttle Enterprise,  on the surface it certainly looks old, worn out, and no matter what,  it's a hulking vehicle... wow, how did this ever get off the ground. The final photo... Shuttle Enterprise was here and moved to California shown in photo restored... Shuttle Discovery appears a bit worse for wear from last mission... not yet restored.
