Doomsday. Now there's a controversial topic that pops up every so often. Probably since man learned to communicate, spurned on by religious beliefs, and now by scientific discoveries, there has and will always be those that have had doomsday prophecies.
Everything to the return of god and his wrath, to alien invasion, to mankind destroying itself, to the scientific realization that in the scheme of things relevant to the galaxy & the universe, planets & their suns are destroyed all the time. It's only a matter of time before earth will experience another worldwide extension, including humans, or a planet killer destroying the earth itself. Scientific facts, well, it could happen next week, next year, or millions of years from now.... or never. As far as religious beliefs... well... those predictions have come and gone for hundreds of years and there's no reason to give them an ounce of creditability. We are far more likely to destroy ourselves or face an alien invasion... unless you consider the return of the gods as an alien return to earth to destroy humanity for its grievous imperfections and decide that their great human experiment has been a failure, and they need to wipe everyone out and start again. Rationally... the scientific explanation is more likely for a doomsday scenario.
In any event you have to ask yourself what you can possibly do about it. The answer ... nothing. What can the scientific community do to prevent a universal calamity... Probably nothing.
The bottom line for the average person... Don't bother yourself or concern yourself about things out of your control. Kinda like flying in an airplane... Your are either gonna land safely or crash and die... It's out of your control.
Yet we continue to have religious beliefs and doomsday TV shows & books that want to instill fear that the end is coming. Worse yet, people alter their lives and their outlook on life in fear of these predictions. Irrational and dangerous, or at the very least emotional disturbing.
The rational mind cares little for irrational beliefs and predictions. And scientific possibilities are out of our control.
I truly can not understand the doomsday mentality.
Live your life and be happy.
