A Park for all seasons... Shenandoah National Park in Virginia.
Skyline Drive goes through the park atop the crest of the mountain ridge... views to the east and views to the west. A beautiful drive along winding roads.
Spring is a great time to visit the park... the long winter is over and everyone is ready to shake off being cooped up all winter. Everything us turning up green.
Summer is just as popular... the weather is great and its usually cooler up on the mountain. Picnics, hikes, and lots of nature.
Fall colors draw big crowds as brilliant colors blanket the mountains.
Winter is the least visited season in the park but it still offers spectacular views over snow covered valleys, and frozen waterfalls and numerous ice trickles along the drive... an interesting contrast to the other seasons. Dress warm.
Sunny, rainy, misty, foggy, daytime, or sunsets... the ever changing faces of nature.
The best part is the escape to nature away from the city and crowded urban areas. Choose your season and the depth of your experience... simply driving through stopping to enjoy the overlooks, day hiking, or over night camping & hiking along the Appalachian Trail which runs through the park.
Be sure to take your camera to capture those memories of nature & wildlife. Bring some drinks & snacks to enjoy along the way. Wear comfortable shoes even for short walks. Bring jackets for cooler days or evenings.
Stop frequently to take it all in, from deer & bears to butterflies & bees... from huge forests to the wild flowers. And the views of the valleys at the overlooks is spectacular. Binoculars are a good choice for distant viewing.
Indeed... a park for all seasons.
