Yesterdays toys
Yesterday's toy for kids of all ages. The ever popular Frisbee.
Hours & hours of fun... day after day... year after year.
Basically now lost to history.
The incredible yet basic toy that brought so much fun... eventually elevated to adult sport status... all but forgotten except by those over 50.
Today... gave a Frisbee to the grandkids.
How can something generate so many questions.
What is it?
How does it work?
How do you turn it on?
Where's the remote control?
Why doesn't it come back on its own?
What else does it do?
You really played with this?
Why?
How about catch.... ya know... with a ball. NOPE!
How about marbles? .... WHAT?
How about board games? ... NOPE!
Outside? ... NO, I DON'T THINK SO!
Go figure... if its not on a phone, tablet, or pc...
Dead Characters
There was always some things you were certain of... any woman that got involved with any of the Cartwright boys on Bonanza... they ended up dead somehow. Any non regular character in Star Trek that wore a red shirt... dead! Any character on the western going against the main characters... dead.
Later there was the presumed possibility dead scenario... the suspense of thinking that perhaps one of the main characters was dead, or gonna die... tune in next week to see if they escaped death.
Not always as it seems...
Today, with sci-fi shows, anything goes. Die... You come back. Die and go to hell... You come bad. Die today... come back in another time. Die... an angel or super human, or alien will revive you. So in today's shows, dead doesn't always mean they'll stay that way. Go figure. Just something to think about on a rainy cold day.
Yesteryear... dead was dead forever...

DWTS
DWTS.... Dancing with the Stars Tv Show.
We have watched this show nearly since the beginning. Lots of great dancers and performances. And over time we've seen some of the stars leave before they should have... leaving lessor celebrity dancers to remain despite the judges scores. There was even one season when one of the judges after a few weeks into the competition actually said in discuss, that one of the celebrity stars hard to go, he was that bad. He were absolutely terrible and didn't even try. The problem is the fan base for popularity. Too many times in the past, better celebrity dancers were sent home in favor of a popularity vote by the audience to save someone that certainly was not as good a dancer.
It's a dancing competition... not a popularity competition.
This current season took the audience popularity vote to an extreme. Yes, congrats to everyone's efforts... but coming into the semi finals & finals, and of the best celebrity dancers was sent home, again due to the popularity vote to save a lessor dancer. Even the lesser dancer said on the show that he should have been to one to go home. This has happened several times before. This season ended with the clearly worse celebrity dancer winning the competition... solely on the popularity vote of the audience, against all the judges scores. This was by far the biggest injustice in the shows history. The producers have had many indications in the past of this situation, and apparently have done nothing. With this latest season, and the winner solely winning by an audience popularity vote... I can't express my dissatisfaction and disappointment on the voting process. Judging and winning is for the best dancers... not the one with the biggest fan base popularly vote.
Actually looking for one of two outcomes... revise the judging process and illuminate audience popularity vote... or don't have another season. Otherwise, we will not watch this show again. Read the comments of viewers everywhere... They all express the same feelings. This should be a wake up call for the producers as ratings fall, revenues fall, and the show goes into further decline.
In the beginning
In the beginning...
FRENCH FRIES were made from real, fresh, potatoes...pealed, washed , and fresh fried in peanut oil. Delicious.
MILK SHAKES were hand made with real ice cream and milk, made to order.
HAMBURGERS actually had that beefy flavor.
COKE was made with real sugar (not corn sweeteners)
TODAY.... lots of improvements and additions to the menu. But with the evolution of the food industry.... everything made cheaper and faster with more additives...well the wholesome natural flavor is long gone.
The breakfast sandwiches is the only good items left in the menu... lunch / dinner items are a bust.
The taunted new fresh all beef, fresh cooked, burgers... not impressed at all. Originally advertised as fresh cooked to order, I thought I'd try them. I got my fresh cooked to order burger in less than two minutes. Fresh cooked to order? Beefy flavor? ... not really. French fries... Same old, same old, barely warm cardboard fries. Milkshakes... lots of artificial flavor in an emulsified solution... is that really 100 % dairy? But... the Coca-Cola is still enjoyable.
All in all... Everything was much better in the 60s. Limited menu... drive up only... but still was the best.

Schools
Schools today.... The less I know & hear about what they are teaching in school.. The better I feel. I have 3 grand daughters in middle school & high school.
They don't teach cursive writing anymore... really?
They don't teach about the Civil War anymore... might offend someone.
And as if I can't really believe this, they are learning about Darwin... And how we all started and evolved from bananas. WHAT? Bananas? That's what she said... all three times... bananas. Hope this is a mistake on her part.
Tried to help with homework... first off... why are they learning this? And most of it doesn't make much sense anyway.
Idoeno... guess I'll send secret messages written in cursive... They'll never figure it out.
Amazed.... Simply amazed.
They're offended...
They're offended again... Or perhaps more appropriately... "still offended"... It's an ongoing process. There seems to be no limit to the endless array of things that offend people. Things that are ridiculously significant, things that happened 200 years ago, things that are ancient history, religious dissension, political differences, racial differences, social differences, cultural differences... and basically things that can not be changed. They are offended by things that don't even affect their life. Things that have absolutely no bearing in their life, no bearing in their well being... except for their own mental & emotional anguish that they have imposed upon themselves. Then they endlessly argue, shout, and demonstrate about what offends them in an effort to force their beliefs upon others. And adding to the problem is the credence given to them by the media and politicians.
Yes... There are some important issues that need to be addressed... but it seems like there are hundreds of frivolous obsessions with trivial issues that people are offended by.
Time to grow up... suck it up... and join the rest of the human race that looks for ways to be happy and live in harmony, rather than making themselves angry, miserable, and unhappy.
No one cares that you are offended. Get a life.
Signs...
Signs of good times, natural beauty, wildlife, and a time to connect with nature and reflect on your own well being. Drive, walk, hike... great vistas, and time to simply sit for a while and take it all in.
