The Night Time Sky…
We all are out and about during the daytime, the bright sun lighting our way revealing the beauty of nature here on the earth. But the night time sky takes us to other places. Places far away, both in distance and in time. With the exception of the moon, the closest thing in the night sky is millions of miles away. And in the concept of time… incomprehensible and endless! The heavens have been there since the beginning of time itself, we are only a small part of what has always been… less then a drop of water in the ocean in comparison. Yet, here we are… busy about our daily lives… limited in scope. Our own lives and mankind in general seem so big and important, but when considering a bigger perspective, we are so small and precarious in our existence. The universe is measured in billions of years, the earth in millions of years, mankind in thousands, our history in centuries, and as individuals a few short decades, perhaps a mere 70 or so years. A persons life in time, in relation to the earth or universe is almost nothing… a brief flash of light in the vastness of eons. To gain a little perspective, just watch the night time sky. The vastness of the stars both in distance and in time. Mankind has stared at the stars since we first looked to the heavens. We see the same stars that people have looked at thousands of years. Probably with the same thoughts. Staring at the stars makes you feel like you’re a bigger part of them, yet so small and less then significant in comparison. So why does man stare at the stars… all the thoughts, dreams, and possibilities. The past, the future, and how fortunate we are to be in the current cycle of the planet that is best suited for mankind of exist and thrive. Well over 99% of everything that has lived on this planet has become extinct, as we too will be some day. How precarious we are in our existence in the cycles of planets, sun & stars, and the universe. Thinking about things more relevant to mankind today… it almost seems pointless to fight, argue, disagree, and have global conflicts over things that are only on loan to us for a short while, in the scheme of planetary evolution and mankind’s existence. We are as a whole indeed flawed beings not to live peaceably, just get along, and make the most out of our existence. I think looking in wonderment with a open mind at the night time sky frees the mind to ponder the possibilities. Perhaps make you a bit more thankful for what we have… life. I think that if mankind was somehow created by God or Gods from the heavens… they’d surely look upon mankind as a whole as a failed experiment… and erase the mistake and start over. If it’s a point of mother nature being the judge… well, less decimating or considerate, whichever the case might be, the nature of the planet and the universe is to evolve and life as we know it holds little significance. After all, we are completely at the mercy of planetary changes. Small, big, local of widespread… changes are inevitable that will affect mankind and society as we know it adversely. So look at the night sky, enjoy the beauty, feel the sense of being a part of it, sense the wonderment that mankind has felt for thousands of year… staring at the heavens, just like you could be doing tonight. Feel a peace and contentment with the the natural world, before reality steals the moment. That’s what I saw tonight… when I watched and ponder the stars and the heavens, and of things in the past. It all seems so simple and calming, so relaxing and freeing of the mind… peaceful and content. Makes me wonder what is wrong with humanity as a whole. Since the beginning of time, man has dreamed of utopia… but always seems to endeavor to accomplish just the opposite. Ahh… the peaceful night time sky… a wonderful escape. I should sit outside at night more often… and watch the stars and the heavens… simply wonderful.
