Great Food is one of Life’s Great Joys…and what can I say… I Love Great Food. We had been planning a trip to Ohana’s at Disney’s Polynesian Resort for quite some time. This time we finally planned ahead… four months ahead… and got reservations. We invited friends of ours to join us… so it was Bob & Donna, Shelly & Brianna, and me. We had never been to Ohana’s before, but heard it was really good. So there we were… all set… great location at the Polynesian… beautiful decor… great friends… and ready for an All You Can Enjoy Hawaiian Feast. Sometimes when you hear good things about a place, it never quite lives up to it’s reputation… and more often when you wait to get to somewhere… the anticipation out weighs the actual experience. But every so often the reverse is true… and despite all the build up and the high expectations… you will still be amazed & surprised that everything is even better then expected. It was absolutely wonderful beyond all expectations… and I believe it was a 131 times “OMG”… with every single bite dining experience. You couldn’t help but to close your eyes and concentrate all our senses on “taste”…. OMG! Everything was so good!
We had a wonderful time, and no doubt the best food on Disney Property. It’s no wonder they are booked solid year round and why you need to book 4-6 months in advance. Boma at Animal Kingdom Lodge is a close second… but not OMG Over the Top Great! We have been to lots of great places… and the food here at Ohana’s was much better then Disney’s Luau and Seaworld’s Luau… and every other place we have been. Wish I had more pics of the “cousins” and the food… but I was much too busy and occupied with enjoying every single bite… ahhh! Questions… oh, “Cousins”… well all the natives of Hawaii are in spirit related… “cousins”… they are family… hence the name… Ohana… which means family… and the servers are naturally Cousins.
The meal started with a wonderful premium salad with a Honey Lime dressing. Adding a sprinkle of special ginger peanut sauce really puts it over the top. Next came the Honey Coriander Chicken Wings with sweet n sour sauce and pork dumplings with a spicy mustard sauce ( or you can couple the sauces anyway you want with the meats ). Anyone over fifty years old always enjoys anything different, and this was not only different but certainly over the top with flavor. The main courses included Asian Chicken, Mesquite Pork, Marinated Sirloin Steak, and Spicy Grilled Jumbo Shrimp. They were all cooked over an open pit indoor grill on large skewers… and when perfectly cooked the “cousins” would bring the skewers to the table and serve you what ever you wanted, sliding them right of the skewers. The special sauces also added extra flavor to the four meat items that could not have been any better… tender, juicy, flavorful, grilled to perfection, and you could have a much as you wanted… hello Shrimp. Second helpings on the steak, chicken, and pork, and… hello to more Shrimp. The meal also came with Lo Mein Noodles and stir fried veggies. After you have enjoyed every single bite and went well over the one hundred moments mark for “OMG” my taste buds are in heaven … you can take a breather and ready yourself for dessert. All the time you are enjoying dinner the kids are treated to an interactive show around the dinning area with hula, limbo, and other interactive treats of song and dance. A very nice treat for the adults too. Approaching the 90 minute mark… we are ready for dessert. Hawaiian Bread Pudding with a banana caramel topping and vanilla ice cream… “OMG” number 132 thru 151. So there you have it… a total of 151 “OMG” moments that totally elevate your taste buds to new heights of ecstasy. Only one thing could have ever made it better… jumbo lump meat crab cakes… but let’s not be greedy… we’ll save the crab for another great evening of food.
Aloha.
Just in case you never saw a great crab cake…broiled…
all jumbo lump crab meat… ahhhh…
Steamed Blue Crabs wouldn’t be bad either…
Ohana’s was so good… I even forgot about Crabs…
