The world today

The World Today...

What can you say about the world today?
Generally I'm a pretty optimistic person, but world events being what they are, and the direction they are headed... well, there's not much to be optimistic about.

I grew up in a post world wars society. My grandfather served in WWI, my father in WWII. Other relatives served in Korea and Vietnam.
As for myself,  I missed Vietnam by 6 months. It ended store I finished high school. So I had the fortune to be born just the right time in war history to not get sucked into a major war.
Not that I'm anti-war, but after most of my growing up period... 1958 - 1972 was seeing all the negative effects of a majorily extremely unpopular war... Vietnam. It was just the opposite of WWII where we were attacked.

In the scheme of wars, I was born at the right time.

In the scheme of the US at war, and given that the country will be 250 years old soon... And only been in a state of peace time less than 40 years... avoiding involvement in the wars is quite the coincidence of good personal fortune.

About war & society. I grew up post WWII right in the middle of the Cuban missile crisis.
Nuclear war was looming. Fallout shelters were common place. Elementary schools ran nuclear drills under desks and in the hallways, kneeling down, head to knees, hands behind head... the threat seemed all to real. The possibility of Nuclear war was real, leaders ready to push the button,  hell with the consequences.

Then came 50 years of relative world peace and the possibility of nuclear was held in check by the concept of matual total destruction. No one was willing to push the button.

Now, we live in a world were escalation from conventional warfare could easily result in nuclear attacks. Ever escalating towards total destruction.
Some world leaders that seem unstable enough to push that button ending themselves  and every one and everything else.

So as world leaders flex there political strength to see who has the biggest D_ _ k... putting everything at risk.

Don't we have enough enemies in the world?
So why to we antagonize an alienate
Our allied countries...
Canada, Mexico, and European Allies?
Can you spell economic disaster!

So where did it all go wrong.
The US fought Germany & helped save Europe & Russia. Russia... now an adversary.
The US fought Japan &  helped saved China. China now an adversary of sorts.

Korea... well, he's just a unstable mad-man that would push the button to start WWIII.. Nuclear war to end all wars and everything else.

Of course this is the general perspective that is perhaps true, or perhaps propaganda via the government...
No doubt the truth is somewhere in between.
After all government & politices is good at Manipulation of the masses telling them what to think,  how to feel, and who to hate.   How can 1% of the population as world leaders throw 99% of the population into panic & fear, and war.

What a wonderful world it would be if all countries, all peoples could spend all resources in cooperation to benefit all... rather than war.

Of course, most world leaders are elected... And you could say it the fault of the people that elected them. Not true... Just look at the choices offered. Bad, worse,  and deplorable at best.

So what's the most urgent concerns / threats?

Government & politicians aside... natural earth disaters will someday eradicate humans or at least greatly reduce world wide population via climate change... too hot, too cold , too dry, too wet. Fireball asteroids from space... planet killers. Reversal of the earths magnet fields.
Plagues and viruses for which there is no cure.
All which will reduce world population by over 75%.
Did I mention world wide food shortages?

Or perhaps the gods of old, visitors from other planets, that influenced human development , someday return to see that their human experiment failed on all levels...
and the decide to start all over again.

Artificial intelligence... save us, rule us, be the end of us?

But find comfort in the fact what all 435 members of government have provided for themselves to survive in underground bunkers.

Then there's the the earth like planet a mere 300 light years away tha would provide survival of the human race.
Incidentally 300 light years is approximately 12,000 Earth years. What would humanity look like after 480 generations? In space? Assuming they could survive that long?

So, as you can see. There is no amount of positive thinking to result in an optimistic future.

So live for today.  Enjoy family.  Be happy.
Stay healthy.

I was fortunate... I grew up , barely one generation from horse & buggy days.  Experienced the rise of airplanes, automobiles,  radio, television, computers, communication, modern medicine, and mans reaching for the stars,  or at least nearby planets. All the modern conveniences threat we enjoy everyday. Yep, I lived in a marvelous time.
