History

History...

What we know...
What we don't know...
And what is highlighted.

Much of modern history is fairly well documented. Of course this is subject to the perspective of those that wrote that history down. Generally, in any conflict, the winning side writes history from their perspective, justifying themselves as the righteous victors. One prominate aspect of our own history, the United States wrote the history to their perspective about the Native American Indian Tribes.
Everything that European Americans did to the native Americans was justified as history was written. In a more modern world, the U.S. goes to war in other countries throughout the world to defend those that are being culturally oppressed or murdered. Pretty much condemning today, what happened here with native Americans. Go figure.

History is subjective to the perspective of those recalling it. February is Black history month, and despite all the positive contributions the that Black Americans have made to American history, the overwhelming attitude, year after year,  is all the negatives involving slavery that was part of America's culture from the 1600s to 1865. And yes, there was open discrimination right through the 1960s. Social discrimination, though legally and morally apprehensive, continues today in the hearts and minds of too many people on both sides of issue.

So, are we as a society any closer to resolving the racial issues? I'd like to think so,  but too many things would indicate otherwise. Of course there are too many things that on the surface seem to be helping,  when in fact are creating, promoting, and perpetuating racial social division.

First and foremost is the mentality that all whites oppress blacks, and that African Americans are due compensation because of slavery that ended 165 years ago. This is overemphasized as the prevalent attitude rather than seeing the accomplishments and opportunities afforded everyone today. Even positive aspects that center on black exclusive TV shows, cable networks, and events, perpetuates social division. The more people shout and promote exclusive ethnic events, the more embedded issue of social division is encouraged.

We are all Americans, no matter the ethnic heritage.
Sad to say... racial and ethnic prejudice while seeming to be getting better... It's two steps forward,  one step back. It doesn't help that the news media emphasizes every racial issue as if it represents the majority of society in a negative way.

Why is so much time and effort spent on segregating ethnic groups in an effort to make them feel better, when segretating of anything has but one effect... dividing us socially, racially, and economically.

Keep shouting that anyone person or group is being oppressed and they will respond to everything with that in mind.

Well... It's a new day of a new year... Perhaps somewhere in the tomorrow's,  things will be better.
