Abandoned

Abandoned homes left to be reclaimed by nature are scattered throughout the country side. Most are simply old farm houses, barns, and old grain silos. Once, no longer being used, replaced by new homes, they stand in silence waiting for nature to claim them after decades of neglect. Every once in a while there's a once spectacular mansion abandoned, standing and waiting in endless time. It's hard to understand how buildings as wonderful as these are abandoned. Some homes and buildings survive 150-200 years with maintenance. 
Yet these mansions remain abandoned and decaying. How could someone just walk away from homes like this? The last of a family that died? No one ever interested in buying the house and property?

Cursed or haunted, and no one would consider owning?

Hard to believe that these magnificant mansions could ever simply be abonded. Would love to know their history.  
But they stand in silence. Seems to be a real shame. Especially when some do not appear to be in too bad of shape.
