American people... Politics... and the Media that divides us all.
Facebook as a media to influence public opinion.
Several concepts come into play here.
(too much to read? Most important things are)

# Fake accounts that spread false information full of lies & deceptions to negatively impact public opinion about political opponents.
# Actual truthful news about information that would negatively impact public opinion about an opponent especially if a cover up discovered....oh dear.
# Real accounts of real people that spread posts via "share" that supports either their views either positive for their candidate or negative towards another.
# The "share" button is like the old concept of exponential multiplication. 1 tells 10... 10 tells 100... 100 tells 1000... 1000 tells 100,000... and so on. It matters little if the "shares" are accurate or truthful... or completely made up lies.

So its been said the Facebook greatly influenced the last election. Either via negative smear posts and misinformation, or detrimental coverups revealed. Positive information was also presented, but as you know, negative detrimental issues make the news and are a greater influence. Let's assume that all this true. Facebook was a greater influence on the election results.
After all... People will believe anything as true & accurate if they hear it enough times. So is Facebook the big bad unrighteous terrible influence that needs to be condemned? Well, not much more than the mainstream media of tv news, TV talk shows, and printed media. Mostly on opposite sides, the media condemns Facebook for its influence on the public... Isn't this the very black pot calling the kettle black.
Like most Americans we are all sick of the media bias, the politicians, and the never ending relentless political rhetoric that creates social division resulting in political apathy and indifference, or heated political debates.
So, where does it stop? Well, it's too far gone... It will never stop... only causing more resentment and division. Like the old saying... want to start an argument, talk religion or politics.
One last comment... political posts on Facebook... some will agree with you, so will not, and others simply resent the once personal connection of Facebook being used for part of the relentless political rhetoric. How many people quit using Facebook because of this? How many people are dropped from news feeds and unfollowed due to political rhetoric?
Just saying... Everything has a place.
