If they could only see us now… hey, wait… most of us can see us now… most of us were there. So there’s a little look at modern travel for hire, from when some of us were just kids. For those of you were not yet born… this may fill in some of the blanks about how your parents or grandparents grew up. Planes, trains, and automobiles. No doubt cars were the biggest craze… rent the most popular car to really enjoy your travels.
The 1957 Chevy… only $8 per day and 8¢ a mile.
(includes rental, gas, oil, and insurance)
or let someone else do the driving…
how about Chicago to New York for less than $13
convenient non stop service…
or for faster service, just fly Eastern…
later known as “The Wings of Man”
Yep… we all came a long way.
First there was just…
walking everywhere, riding horses, horse drawn buggies and wagons,
than… boats, trains, automobiles, busses, and airplanes.
Personally, I can’t wait the the teleporter…
Just instantly beam me up, down, or over,
to where ever I want to be.
Now that’s no so far fetched…
40 years ago Star Trek had all kinds of gadgets…
and just look what we didn’t have then, that we have now…
We were lucky to have Tv with 3 snowy channels… now we have LCD, HD,3D, DVD, DVR, DTv, 300 channels, and we thought cable and a VCR was hi tech. The old rotary house phones to cell phones that do more things than you can remember how to do. Record players to Mp3’s that hold 1000 songs in the palm of your hand. Film cameras to digital wonders. Slide rules to calculators. Notebooks to I-Pad’s. Adding machines to computers… and the list and advancements go on and on. So fast that most of us can’t keep up with… or perhaps don’t really want to.
Sometimes… ya just gotta pause and wonder… even reminisce about simpler days. Something to think about… Fishing and hunting was actually done outside and not on a computer game. Kids could actually add, subtract, and multiply in their head. The elegance of writing letters is reduced to emails at best, texting at worst. I wouldn’t wanta go back… but it does make you wonder, if just perhaps, if even for a few moments, or perhaps just part of the day, reminisce about the simpler days… less stress, less worries, and a bit slower and carefree. Yep, I could use a couple of days like that from time to time. Just sit back, enjoy the afternoon, water the lawn by hand, play with the dog, and watch the breeze through the trees. ahhhh… So much for Memory Lane…
