USS Alabama BB60

Day Trip to Alabama… with a stop off to see the Battleship… USS Alabama.

Always interested in history… a visit to the USS Alabama was a journey back into history… to actually be on board and see a WWII battleship. Like most historic places, it would be nice if more information plaques were around to explain more about what your are seeing…. but it was still a great experience. The Alabama was launched in Feb 1942 after 2 years of construction at the Norfolk, Virginia Shipyard…. and was on active duty during WWll until being decommissioned in Jan 1947. Later it was relocated to Mobile Alabama and dedicated and open for visitors in Jan 1965. Really something to see not only from the outside… but to be able to go many places into the battleship to see many of the ships interior spaces as well as actual equipment that was in use during WWll.

So… if you are a history buff on WWll… a stop over in Mobile could be just the ticket. They also have a WWll submarine, a life size model of a civil war submarine, and numerous historic planes. While you can go into the planes, you can go into the WWll submarine. I thought the spaces were tight on the battleship… wow. Here’s a few interior shots.
