There's not doubt, its been scientifically proven... human DNA took a giant leap well beyond normal evolution some thousands of years ago. There is no missing link otherwise science would have found it. Science found evidence thousands of years before, and thousands of years after that genetic leap. So what explains this genetic leap? An advancement in DNA that accounted for modern humans.
Since science can not find a explanation, All that remains is theories. Based on all civilizations saying that beings from the sky visited earth in ancient history to help humanity, one could conclude that help was in the way of genetic engineering. Rational & reasonable.
In recent studies yet to be absolutely proven, viral and bacterial infections while mostly detrimental, do have a ability to change or influence changes to human genetics in a positive way.
It's also a theory that live micro organisms that actually survive entering earths atmosphere can have influence and changes in human genetics.
Age old viruses being uncovered by global thawing, unleashed on a world no longer immune, could also be devastating.
The fear is a alien virus being detrimental to human population.
On a negative note. Be it "nature" or other influences beyond this world, a mass extinction event is overdue to re-adjust human population. It happened several times. Natural disasters and plagues accounting for past mass population reductions. But just like the spread of Covid... it will be a world wide event.
