Controversy Locally

Local Controversy
Just something to think about.

Just think about all that is wrong
with this country that affects us all.

  • Politics and government
  • Crime and the justice system
  • Prejudice... It's affecting everyone.
  • Environmental issues
  • Inflation and economic issues
  • Health care issues
  • Wars and terrorism.
  • Drug abuse
  • Illegal immigrants and the border
  • Religion involved in government ( abortion issue)

    So many major issues.
But what concerns Virginia and the South is renaming streets, parks, and buildings... tearing down monuments,  and even renaming military forts. Why? Because they reflect connections to the civil war and the slavery issue. Although it's been 165 year in the past,  people are offended by anything named after the  Confederacy. Although slavery issues to back to the origins of this country and beyond,  the focus is on the civil war. The founding fathers and prominent figures in early American history all had slaves and lived in a world filled with slavery. But the focus is on the civil war history.  History... You can not change history to make yourself feel better.  It seems that the quality of life today, their wellbeing, is directly affecting any remembrance of history. It's such a sensitive issue that many school systems have stopped teaching anything about the civil war.  Battle reinactments which occur in many eastern states are being condemned and protested.

I guess if we rewrite history,  eliminate any memory of history, that lives today will be changed for the better. Really?
I guess that's a lofty goal, but it's it realistic?  Are the lives of those that are offended really going to be better? That somehow their lot in life will change... magically... I don't see how.

But the controversy continues to rename places, streets, parks, buildings, and schools...  rewrite history and eliminate history as if it didn't happen... Because some people have hurt feelings and are offended? Wow!

Yes, slavery was an ugly issue, here and world wide, over centuries... and still is its some parts of the world. But you can not change history by covering it up.

The next progression in this movement?  Talk of renaming towns that reflect any connection to the Confederacy. Really? There are 80 counties and towns named after confederate figures.

Talk if removing historical figures that owned slaves from anything in today's society. There goes anything connected to the founding fathers of this country... They all owned slaves. Their pictures are on our money. So where will it stop?

Like anything else... nothing stops until someone tells them to shut up and sit down... no one cares if you offended. Let it go. Get a grip and get a life.  There are more important issues to deal with.

Destruction of civil war monuments
Because it offends them.

Idoeno any more.
Conflict, controversy & prejudice.
This only makes it worse.
