Life's choices

Life's choices... and the consequences.

Some would argue or rationalize that drug addiction is an illness verses a choice. Before they were addicted it was indeed a choice. A choice that despite the risks was simply that... A Choice. Perhaps once addicted, it may be considered an illness. One perspective is that illness is a physical condition that affects people that was not influenced by the option to make a choice.

Clearly the question before the public at large is how much sympathy is due towards addicts, their current situation and their deaths? Some answers are very apparent. There's very little sympathy for those that continued to make a bad choices. They continued to made bad choices, and the consequences are on them. If they die, it was ultimately their choice at the beginning of their abuse. Rationally, their deaths will ultimately through attrition, resolve the issue perminately, one by one... 93,000 per year.

While this perhaps seems cold hearted it's certainly understandable... regardless of the tradagy to them and their families. Life is sometimes cruel enough without making personal choices that lead to self induced tradagies.

But to each their own... feel as you will... choice or illness? The results are the same. Millions are spent to resolve the problem, to which there is no remedy. Addicts drain medical resources that need to be used to help others. Drugs ruined not only their lives but affect family and friends. And will eventually result in death. And it all started with a choice.
