There is no explanation for this intense interest... yet it exists.
I have not researched ancestry to determine if there is a ancestrual connection to anyone that either built or survived the Titanic sinking. I was told as a kid the I am part Irish, so there my be some connection. Which brings up the theory of genetic memory. Events that were so dramatic that the experience and memory was encoded into genetic memory of the person that experienced it. A memory passed down by generations via DNA. Not that people today could consciously access this memory as if part of their own lives, but strong emotional connection, one that deeply draws one to some special dramatic event of the past, from the life of an ancestor. Personally seeing the physical artifacts recovered seems like finding things long gone from my childhood.
Not scary, just completely familiar on an emotional level. The sense of joy, and tragedy. While not part of our rational world, still, something very real beyond the natural order of things.
Why? ... Unknown. I had three other experiences of past historic events. One on a civil war battlefield. Another on a revolutionary battlefield. Both where I knew what was around the corner before getting there, and having ever so faint moments of sights, sounds, smells, and the heart pounding feeling of the battle that once took place there. Sounds impossible.

And one at a mid 1800s mansion house where not only was there a feeling seeing things in the house that existed long ago, but accompanied by a extremely vivid dream the night before, detailing the last day of a young girl that lived in that house, and drown in the river below.
Here's to the memory of the great ship Titanic, and the tragedy.
