Wilderness Walk

[FLASHBACK]

So… what do you do at Disney during Spring Break Easter Week… well, you certainly don’t want to fight the crowds in the Parks. So we decided to relax and enjoy a walk in the wilderness… at least as close to the wilderness as we like to get. We started at the Wilderness Lodge and took the trail that winds it’s way along the banks of Bay Lake and goes from the Lodge to Ft. Wilderness Campground.

Something new, something different, and certainly slow pace and relaxing. Our adventure of discovery started before we even left the our campground… we have seen sand hill cranes many times, but this time we got a real treat… it was the first time we had ever seen a baby sand hill crane… what a treat.

After a few moments of enjoying the sand hill family, we proceeded to the Lodge after a quick stop over for lunch…. what a beautiful day.
WW (2)
So we headed past the pool, and down to the trail… now it’s call a 2 1/2 mile exercise jogging trail… but we decided to enjoy a slow pace stroll.
WW (3)
It’s a nice trail that takes you right through undeveloped side country right along side Bay Lake. You get to see lots of interesting things if you keep your eyes open and the camera ready.
Don’t forget to look up… an Osprey flies overhead.
WW (4)
A dragonfly briefly perches on a twig.
WW (5)
Through the trees we got a good view of Bay Lake.
WW (6)
and a baby Little Blue Heron on the hunt…
WW (7)
A nice trail, but no place to stop & rest…
WW (8)
also ran into an armadillo searching for food…
WW (10)
and than a funny thing, we both though about having not seen any woodpeckers in the area before, and there one was, just looking for a good place to… peck.
WW (9)
We saw lots of other birds like Great Egrets, Ibises, Cardinals, Anhingas, and Cormorants. We were watchful for snakes, but didn’t see any… watchful… not looking… looking implies a certain degree of expecting to find… and that was not in my plans.
Than we finally arrived at Disney’s Tri-Circle-D Farm. This is where all the Disney horses are homed and cared for. Disney maintains 80-90 horses that are used at the Magic Kingdom ( horse drawn street cars), and at the resorts for Trail Rides, Pony rides, Wagon Rides, and the Carriage Rides and snowless winter sleigh rides.
WW (11)
First things first… ahhh… a place to rest…
WW (12) Than a visit to the stables…
WW (14)
and see the pony’s …
WW (13)
yep, a wonderful walking adventure
on the road less traveled.
I was hoping to see the Peacocks that are usually around the campground…
WW (16)
but not on this trip…
but I put their photo in from a past visit…
WW (15)
After a relaxing walk around the campground settlement area, we checked out those two rocking chairs for a while… yep, they still work real good, than we caught a boat ride back to the Lodge.
WW (17)
Than we checked out the Kiddie pool,
and tested the new lounge chairs at the pool.
WW (18)
The water was a bit cool…
but the lounge chairs were just fine!
The warm sun and the cool breeze made for the perfect day! The fact that I got to spend it with my Sweetie made it all the better.
.
Simply… Perfect!
