I heard this all the time growing up. Somehow that concept has been lost over time. Especially since today's society CAN NOT " take or leave" anything.
Especially the "leaving“ part. It's okay for anyone to feel a certain way. Of course, this is another concept lost in today's society. Once you express your thoughts or feelings several times, I get it. But when anyone expresses those same exact thoughts or feelings constantly... That's when I turn it off... ignore, don't need to hear it anymore... I already know how you feel. So at this point, you are trying to convince me to feel the same way you do... And if I feel differently, I resent your continued efforts to justify your thoughts, or convince me you are right, I am wrong, and I should think like you. So I will always turn you off at the get go... not caring listening to it any more. Especially if it's political or religious based. You can go on with your crusade to change the world to your way of thinking...but sad to say... I won't be listening or open to those comments. Anything else, okay, but not the same old same old commentary. ESPECIALLY if it involves infringing on or denying the personal rights and freedoms of others. So you've probably lost the ear of everyone from my generation. We know how to take it (agree) or leave it (I don't want our need to hear that same thing over and over anymore). So if it seems I'm not intently listening... You've got the right impression. Unfortunately younger generations can't leave anything... So they all go on trying to convince others that will never agree with them... social controversy. And it will never end. Of course there's another way to look at it all. Repeated voicing of the same topic repeatedly, that crusade your on... I just might conclude that it falls under the category of simply complaining... That looses my attention quickly too. I can respect your respective, and I may not agree with it, but I won't deny your right to feel that way. But I don't need to hear it all the time.

So that's my little bit of insight today. You can take it or leave it. You can have your social drama and controversy.... I choose it "leave" it. Y'all enjoy your day... If it's not ruined by drama & controversy.
