Pikes Peak

Pikes Peak... could be seen from every where in Colorado Springs.
Over 14,000 elevation.

You can climb the Incline, all 2,700+ steps... or drive up by car... or take a train to the top. We decided not to go to the top due to breathing.
But the view from the top,

By photos, is spectacular.

Gardens of the Gods

Rock outcropings all over the area.

Manitou Springs

Town nestled at the base of the mountain. Neat old buildings, shopping and restaurants.

Cheyenne Mountain Zoo

Starts at the bottom of the mountain and rises up the side of the mountain. Lots of uphill walking.

Nice zoo but small.

We elected to drive rather than fly.

Too much stuff to take.

Kansas, west of Kansas City,

And Eastern Colorado right up to Colorado Springs... 600 miles of flat absolutely nothing, scrub, treeless, weed infested scrub land. Few houses. Dry sandy creek beds, and dried up river beds. 600 miles of nothing to see here!

Then, as if they drew a line on the sand... bang... Colorado Springs full blow housing communities. Well planned communities with seperate planned / zoned commercial areas.

Well planned wide streets.

Old town looks like any other city, mixed residential and commercial.

And no matter where you are there's the backdrop of the mountain and Pikes Peak.

Very nice area... except for the altitude / breathing issue.
