On top of the deli counter there were 3 gallon glass barrel shaped jars filled with bulk items that were very well liked... at least by some.
Whole sour pickled white onions. (eaten like apples)
Whole brined salty kosher pickles. (eaten very salty)
Whole sweet pickled yellow pearl onions. (sweet favorite)
Whole red beet pickled hard boiled eggs. (couldn't say, but popular)
Pickled pigs feet (too disgusting, but popular... Don't know why)
Today... I'd enjoy the sweet yellow pearl onions... And perhaps the white sour onions. The bulk kosher pickles are too soft and squishy and entirely too salty. And there is apparently a reason why pickled eggs and pigs feet have faded away from the main stream deli.
But looking back is nevertheless a worthwhile memory.
