[FLASHBACK] There are many things that you grow up with and take for granted… some can be found else where… as with most foods.
One of my favorite places to eat was a place call “Friendly Farms”… just north of Baltimore up I-83. While there are many good things to be said for this farm restaurant… the most memorable and most missed is the “Crab Cakes”. Pretty much Maryland is one of the few places to get good crab cakes… and even there, percentage wise, few places to get exceptional crab cakes.
This is one of the best… and most missed since we are not in that area of the country anymore. Family style dinners start with Cole slaw (homemade family secret recipe), peaches, celery, pickles, cottage cheese, pickled beets, and apple butter with fried biscuits and V-8 juice. Than the main dinner arrives… and while they have several great choices… I would always get the double crab cake platter with homemade fries. Here’s a picture of one of the crab cakes… delicious beyond belief.
All jumbo lump blue crab meat… broiled, and it has only enough filler to flavor and hold the meat loosely together. Except for the main meat dish… it’s family style, so you as much of everything else you want. Hope to someday visit again… this place will certainly be at the top of my list! A long time favorite for me since the late 60’s.
Than there’s always desert… Ice Cream…yummm!
Of course you can always pick up something after you head home… perhaps a candy bar or two… okay… maybe just one! … or we can share!! ???
