Another interesting day at the zoo!
Another interesting day at the zoo.
Getting additional value from our passes we returned to the Miami Metro Zoo. Enjoying another day at the zoo... new areas to explore... new animals to see. We learned most of the unique animals are named. As we walked around the zoo, most of the animals were visible, but some were not.... hiding or sleeping,
or whatever. When we got to the Asian Rhino habitat area, but we could not see any rhinos. A moment later, what we thought was a gardener approached. He had a 4 foot section of what looked like a rubber tree. He turned out to be a keeper. He noted that the rhino was probably behind the rocks... so he simply called him.... "Johnny"...... "Johnny
".... and just like a puppy dog, "Johnny" the full grown Asian rhino.... came running out from behind the rocks and up to the front of the habitat. The keeper tossed the rubber tree branch over the barrier to Johnny... and he enjoyed his little snack while we learned about Asian Rhinos. Kinda amazing... ran over
just like a puppy dog... some puppy.... 1800 pounds. There was also lots of native lizards that just kinda get into the zoo. They are everywhere. Than there's the biggest lizard of all... the komodo dragon... not native to Florida.
Everywhere throughout the zoo, there are animals exhibits and play areas themed around the animals designed just for the KIDS. Of course there is always a little kid in all of us... and Shelly is no exception. Just check out the photographic evidence... as she rides an anteater. The zoo is really a fun place!
We still have some areas to see on our next visit and a couple of places we want to revisit. Planning on renting one of those Surrey Bikes.... just like Disney has. The zoo is a very big place. Maybe we won't see any rhinos.... just so we can try to call him! I'll let you know how it works out. Johnny...Johnny!
