Social climate

The social climate for today's kids.
Recently had a grand child say that they wished they lived in another country... not America. They think they would have to endure the current issues that plague this country. Today's teenagers coming of age trying to deal with adult issues that some adults can't deal with.
Granted.... 2020 is probably the worst social situation since WWII, and the Vietnam war. When I graduated from high school, being drafted and thrown into an unpopular war in Vietnam facing a high risk of not surviving it... well, that was grim beyond belief.
Today's kids are more aware of social issues than ever before fill with pitfalls and emotional situations... that most are not ready to deal with.
We've talked... and I can fully understand the feelings with all that is happening.  Ongoing political corruption for years ... 3 1/2 years of intense political / social division... the BLM movement and more social division ... the senseless destruction and vandalism by protesters... the entire virus issue with massive changes and more social isolation and division... the racial issues as a whole... prejudice against the gay community... crime issues... and school issues coping with the virus. ALL CREATING MAJOR CONCERNS AND SOCIAL DIVISION. Add to this the "is all about me" ... "I'm offended by everything"... "can not agree to disagree"... media sensationalizing news stories"... and social medias that pump their mind full of fake news, half truths, and some one elses agenda. Then add physical isolation, social isolation, resulting in a stunted ability to function and deal with the social issues in life. No wonder anyone would think that this is terrible state of things. Add to this the belief that they shouldn't have to emotionally have to deal with current issues, don't want to, and aren't mature enough to be able to deal with them anyway. Then there's the grass is always greener concept. Mix in the lack of appreciation for what they have verses what they want. All this makes the perfect storm of negative emotions. As an adult I'm fed up with it all too.
Them wanting to leave this country... well, like the saying,  the grass is always greener on the other side. Life is not all flowers and filled with Disney magic. It's a shame they have to deal with this all. Just like we did... They'll just have to grow up a bit quicker and learn how to deal with life.  Helping them understand this... Probably not an easy task. Them having the ability to learn and understand is something else. They are destined to learn from their mistakes more than previous generations.  Such is life in an imperfect world.
