To play, or not to play… that is the question. At some point in time, everyone has been exposed to some form of dressing up in costume. Most commonly during Halloween. Dressing up as ones favorite character from TV, movies, or stories. Taking this to the ultimate and realistically creating a costume, accurate in every detail has created the term “Cosplay”, which is anything but your normal Halloween event that happens any time of the year. My first remembrance of cosplay dates back many years ago to Star Trek conventions when people would create ultra realistic costumes and dress up as their favorite character.
Thinking back, I'm sure the world of "cosplay" existed in many forms across many genres long before I started to take notice, nevertheless, it's a whole world of extremely serious costume reproductions and events to showcase their creativity. People create their own costumes, most times spending hundreds of hours of custom tailoring, that easily cost hundreds of dollars. The more serious Cosplay costumes can easily cost thousands of dollars to realistically create a masterpiece. All of this may seem more familiar to folks under 40, but probably exposure to those over 50 years old is somewhat less mainstream. We have all heard of Comic Con conventions, and perhaps seen a little about them, but seeing some of the creations… well, it’s nothing less than truly amazing. This happens on a global level and is a world wide culture all to it’s self. Here are some for those amazing recreations.
These are not Disney costumes but recreations by Cosplay individuals.
Realistic and amazing in every detail,
some even better than those found at Disney.
Look closely, these are great recreations,
recognize any of these?
They certainly amaze me.
It would be wonderful to see these in person.
Some portray real characters, and some from animation.
Amazing that people personally create this level of costumes
and makeup, as well as being in character as if doing a performance.
Simply wonderful.
Some even have photo shoots to highlight their great work.
Some create different costumes
and travel different world wide events. So Cosplay may not be new to some,
and wonderfully new to others,
nevertheless, simply amazing.
as well as genders… here’s a female Indiana Jones.
With a little imagination, Peter Pans Shadow.
Well known characters from the past,
and from more recent animations.
ya never know what you might see.
Thanks to all those that shared their photos
so that others might enjoy some of the
wonderful world of Cosplay.
Some are simply spellbinding…
(couldn’t resist that one)
Hope you enjoyed this post…
and all the wonderful creations.
Catcha next time.
