Weather

Weather or Not? Hum… I think yes… definitely more weather. It been easy to look back 6 decades and see the weather changes that have taken place just in my lifetime. We use to have 4 distinct seasons. Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter. Over the years it has pretty much been reduced to what seems like 5 months of summer, and 5 months of winter. The other two months give you some nice days… but pretty much… it’s either cold or hot. And all weather events seem to be more extreme and more frequent. Just my imagination? Perhaps not.

Okay… here’s the next thought. As weather changes in generally small increments from year to year, the changes don’t seem to prominent. Not withstanding major disasters, the changes mostly go unnoticed looking back to the past years. Making comparisons of the past several years to those in the 90’s, or even back through the 60’s – 70’s, and there are drastic changes both in frequency and extremes.

Now here’s the catch. Weather patterns are changing. But it’s nothing new. Science has records of weather patterns going back tens of thousands of years. Evidence from earth samples, rocks and sediment, samples from glacier ice, samples of plant and animal life, and even air samples from bubbles trapped in the ice from thousands of years ago. The can see the repeated patterns of climate and weather change over the eons of Earths history.

So, what have they discovered? Weather and climate changes that have changed the life on this planet over and over again. Mass distinctions that record that over 90% of what was, is now gone. Humans… well in terms of geological time we have existed in for only a few seconds in the sweet spot of weather that allows humans to flourish.

So it’s really not a question of “if” nature disasters will have a negative effect on humanity… but when. The Earths cycles of severe weather is on the increase. More  extreme events will happen in both intensity and frequency. Natural disasters that occurred perhaps only every 50 years will increase to perhaps to several events in the same time span. In addition to gradual changes, there’s always the possibility, again not if, but when, catastrophic events that will greatly effect humanity.

But for now… lets just see how frequent and intense the normally slow evolutionary changes occur.Hopefully most of this will come to past slowly as humanity awaits the biggies. Biggies like an on coming ice age, planet killer asteroid, the less drastic reversal of the Earth’s poles, and the axis tilt. I say less dramatic then a asteroid, but never the less effecting world food resources with probable catastrophic implications.

Here’s a few things to take notice of as the next couple of years progress. Most frequent and intense weather events.

Possible… probable… the question is when.

Not “if”… but “when”…

The unthinkable? … Not really… Why? …

the possibility is not yet part of our expected reality.

So it will come as a shock to everyone…

except scientists.

Just something to think about,
as you hear more and more about one disaster after.

Of course, that assumes we don’t do ourselves in first.
or acts of terrorism escalate.

Just another thought… How secure do you feel?

Do you have a false sense of security?
Will help come quickly in a disaster?
Remember Hurricanes Katrina & Sandy.
But rest assured, the governments failings in the past have been addressed. They have made extensive plans for our leaders to comfortably survive natural or manmade disasters, so they can govern in the face of massive devastation.

I know I feel better (sarcastically thinking).
