Internet Explorer

 698533315982397221

e1According to a confirmation by Microsoft, a new zero day vulnerability has been found to affect every version of Internet Explorer. In other words—over a quarter of the entire browser market.

Attacks taking advantage of the vulnerability are largely targeting IE versions 9, 10, and 11 in something called a "use after free" attack. Essentially, the attack corrupts data as soon as memory has been released, most likely after users have been lured to phony websites.

If you are among the remaining people that still use Internet Explorer for internet access, your Pc and you could be at a big grave risk. Microsoft is working on the problem, but this is little comfort to Xp users now that Microsoft will no longer support or update Xp software. Many businesses still use Xp including the IRS, and many people are still loyal users of this best and most reliable operating system.

Why do so many still use Xp? Reliability, compatibility with programs, users friendly features.

Why does Microsoft not support Xp anymore? It’s all about dollars, as if Microsoft doesn’t make enough. Xp users don’t need to buy the new programs, and they are not buying new computers and newer operating systems. No sales, no more money for Microsoft. Since Xp support has ended there is a solution… Microsoft says you can upgrade to new operating systems that are supported ( buy new computers ) or purchase expensive support for security software updates for Xp. Ahhh… now there’s a money making idea.

Back on topic…. But then again, why is anyone still using Internet Explorer? Firefox has the biggest user loyalty and unlike Google Chrome works well with all operating systems including Xp. Chrome crashes Xp, but is said to work well with the latest windows operating systems. I have been using Firefox for several years and love it. Then there’s Safari for Pc plus the mobile version for smart phone users. Ahhh…  I bet Internet Explorer users still use a flip phone and have cassette tapes and VHS recorders. That’s okay… there’s no intent to insult… there’s just newer and better things out there that you just haven’t gotten yet.

How do you get Firefox or Google Chrome? Free download and free updates that include all the latest security features that Internet Explorer seems to be lacking. So check it out and consider making the switch. Fried hard drives, lost data, and being hacked for personal information and passwords is no fun.

In the mean time… good luck to Internet Explorer users… you must like living on the edge.

Rv Fridge

At some point in time everyone’s refrigerator will fail. So, what’s the difference? Two major elements… a Rv refrigerator has the ability to run on propane and electric, so as you travel you can keep things cold not being hooked up to the good old a/c house current. It also costs, in our case, about $3,600 for a new one. The same size household refrigerator cost about $400. Even to make a minor repair to the rv fridge would cost more then the brand new household (a/c only) unit. Now, if you are almost always hooked up to a/c except for a 6-8 hour trip while traveling maybe, just maybe you don’t really need the rv fridge propane operation feature. For an extra $3,000 I think I can live without it. Two additional bonuses. The household unit will cool quicker and easier then the rv unit, and will make more ice faster… plus there’s the every present possibility of the rv unit failing and causing a fire destroying the rv. This has been a problem for several years involving major recalls and warnings from both of the rv refrigerator manufacturers. Recalls virtually involved almost every rv fridge made up to 2008 or so. Most of the fixes for the recalls were more or less patches that should fix the problems but rv’s were still at risk. Probably why most new rv manufacturers are putting household units in their rv’s.

The Rv refrigerator… $3,600. 10.5 cu ft capacity.

f2

The Whirlpool Household refrigerator $405. 10.7 cu ft capacity.

And you can even put an ice maker into it for about $90.

Sweet!

It was an easy choice!

A little bit of work to more one out and one in… and a little bit of cabinetry work and we will have a better and safer unit… and save $3,200! It’s perfect for the rv… only 24 inches wide so it will go in any rv entrance door, and only 28” deep, and 61” high. And if you wanted to remodel the rv, and have the room to do it, install two of these units for extra storage capacity. Twice the capacity at 25% of the cost.

Planet Earth 2

Good news... NASA has discovered another Earth like planet. So if mankind should ever need to leave Earth before eminent destruction befalls on us all... we'll have a place to go. At least in theory... if we can develop technology to get us there faster. With current technology it would take 18 million years.

Weather

Weather or Not? Hum… I think yes… definitely more weather. It been easy to look back 6 decades and see the weather changes that have taken place just in my lifetime. We use to have 4 distinct seasons. Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter. Over the years it has pretty much been reduced to what seems like 5 months of summer, and 5 months of winter. The other two months give you some nice days… but pretty much… it’s either cold or hot. And all weather events seem to be more extreme and more frequent. Just my imagination? Perhaps not.

w (13)

Okay… here’s the next thought. As weather changes in generally small increments from year to year, the changes don’t seem to prominent. Not withstanding major disasters, the changes mostly go unnoticed looking back to the past years. Making comparisons of the past several years to those in the 90’s, or even back through the 60’s – 70’s, and there are drastic changes both in frequency and extremes.

Now here’s the catch. Weather patterns are changing. But it’s nothing new. Science has records of weather patterns going back tens of thousands of years. Evidence from earth samples, rocks and sediment, samples from glacier ice, samples of plant and animal life, and even air samples from bubbles trapped in the ice from thousands of years ago. The can see the repeated patterns of climate and weather change over the eons of Earths history.

w (27)

So, what have they discovered? Weather and climate changes that have changed the life on this planet over and over again. Mass distinctions that record that over 90% of what was, is now gone. Humans… well in terms of geological time we have existed in for only a few seconds in the sweet spot of weather that allows humans to flourish.

w (46)

So it’s really not a question of “if” nature disasters will have a negative effect on humanity… but when. The Earths cycles of severe weather is on the increase. More  extreme events will happen in both intensity and frequency. Natural disasters that occurred perhaps only every 50 years will increase to perhaps to several events in the same time span. In addition to gradual changes, there’s always the possibility, again not if, but when, catastrophic events that will greatly effect humanity.

But for now… lets just see how frequent and intense the normally slow evolutionary changes occur.Hopefully most of this will come to past slowly as humanity awaits the biggies. Biggies like an on coming ice age, planet killer asteroid, the less drastic reversal of the Earth’s poles, and the axis tilt. I say less dramatic then a asteroid, but never the less effecting world food resources with probable catastrophic implications.

Here’s a few things to take notice of as the next couple of years progress. Most frequent and intense weather events.

Not “if”… but “when”…

History repeats itself…

The unthinkable? … Not really… Why? …

the possibility is not yet part of our expected reality.

So it will come as a shock to everyone…

except scientists.

Just something to think about,
as you hear more and more about one disaster after.

Of course, that assumes we don’t do ourselves in first.
or acts of terrorism escalate.

w (42)

Just another thought… How secure do you feel?

Do you have a false sense of security?
Will help come quickly in a disaster?
Remember Hurricanes Katrina & Sandy.
But rest assured, the governments failings in the past have been addressed. They have made extensive plans for our leaders to comfortably survive natural or manmade disasters, so they can govern in the face of massive devastation.

I know I feel better (sarcastically thinking).

I Love the Beach.

Why does creativity and imagination suffer sometimes?

Sometimes I’m just full of it ( no comments please ).

Sometimes  it’s almost nonexistent.

utrutyut

So… why the change?

I guess lots of influences make for the perfect setting, or lack thereof. Staying in one place too long, not having new adventures in new places… this seems to be a big one. New places and adventures always seems to ignite creativity, and creativity unlocks the imagination. So the opposite must be true… the same old same old, no matter how nice, plainly reduces creativity and imagination.

I try very hard not to let anything bother me, but sometimes, some things just take a hold of you and there goes your inner child getting all serious. At this point in my life I actually resent having to be too serious about anything.

Working too long (too many hours per week), and working too hard (physically demanding) takes up too much of your “me time”. Too many work days and work hours greatly cuts into relax time, and time to enjoy new things… time to be inspired even if just by simple things like sitting on the beach.

There’s not much inspiration in the “same old, same old”.

Another negative factor… drama, tension, and stress. Who wants this? But, sooner or later there’s always something to create emotional distress. I hate this as much as having to be serious.

So… what’s the answer? Change things. New places, new adventures, less work, more relax time, no stress and no drama… especially major drama over less then minor crap. Yep, I said the word crap… but I did leave out an adjective to two preceding the word in question.

I need more beach, and more me time… and resent the fact that I can’t get it. This alone generally would not be a great problem. But add to this the unnecessary drama, with the same old same old, and being emotionally forced into serious… and personal wellbeing seems to suffer. Positive outlooks fade. Attitude and demeanor change as you bottle things up and start to have to begin forcing a smile. Then it’s a slippery path to everything negative. No inspiration, no imagination, and no creativity. No life for me. To revisit an old quote… “ I’m getting too old to have to, or want to deal with crap”. So here’s to a renewed outlook for today, tomorrow, next week, and the rest of the year. But if something doesn’t change on it’s own… then I’ll have to initiate a change. What that will be? Who knows… but change it will… change it must.

Pardon my venture into what amounts to writing and thinking myself into a better place… arriving at conclusions, and finding answers and solutions. I feel better already… well… maybe just a little. But the prognosis to good… I always get back to a good place, and things always seem to work out.

Hope y’all have a good day, and a better tomorrow.

A Bit of Reminiscing

Wow… we have been Rving for 11 years now…
Sometimes it’s nice to look back at the old home in Belair Maryland. Lived there for twenty years…
Sometimes I miss the secluded back yard and the large deck… I definitely miss the big hot tub… boy do I miss the hot tub… and occasionally I miss tinkering in the yard. It was a great back yard… right next to a nice little stream… sometimes all you could hear was the wind in the trees and the creek running over the stones. Very nice indeed.
Nice fenced yard…
ba
Lots of room to play with the dogs…
ba (6)
Nice side yard…
ba (3)
and lots of breathing room…
ba (4)
ba (1)
ba (5)
Just a nice relaxing place
to get a way while still at home.
Sometimes miss it…
But wouldn’t trade the RVing lifestyle
to go back to it.
Lost most of my photos of the house…
but these were some of my favorites anyway.
