Dreams…

So what triggers dreams… what triggers the types of dreams… and why do you remember only some? Something we see or hear? Something we eat before bedtime? All good questions that we’ll explore sometime later. This is just a remembrance of one such dream… or at least part of it. The dream takes place in the desert. Lots of sand… everywhere. Now there’s nothing that I’ve seen or heard recently about deserts… so where this comes from is a mystery to me. Anyway… the desert… lots of sand… all night long. And apparently I’m a good friend to a young sheik.  Ya know, like AbiBaba… and we’re at his 18 birthday party bash since we are best friends. Much to my surprise one of the gifts is from his father… previewT10196a group of 18  girls to start his harem. Start? … okay. Did I mention that in my dream I’m always younger… go figure. Anyway… he gets the 18 girls for his birthday. As the party progresses I suggest that it’s a great party… etc… etc… and how it’s always been traditional to share some of what you get at the party with others, especially your best friend. After a few moments of reflection, he agreed that things should be shared between such good friends. What his is mine and all that stuff… and he commented that was sorry he didn’t think of it first. He was simply wrapped up in the moment and forgot his manners.  Certainly he’d love to share… especially with such a good friend. Did I also mention that I’m not only young in my dreams but also single… and.. you know… younger. So anyway… back to the whole sharing thing. He puts one hand on my shoulder… and with a smile on his face… says… go ahead… enjoy yourself… help yourself… pick any one you like… or more than one if you like… have all the fun you want… enjoy all the cake and ice cream you’d like! Wow… what a party… and all the cake and ice cream of could ever want. I’m so overwhelmed by his generosity. Just what I’ve always dreamed about… Cake and ice cream. Go figure.

Remember the Alamo

Kinda hard to do… I’ll explain. As part of our trip to San Antonio, we visited the Historic site of the Alamo. It was really an odd experience. I have visited many historical sites pertaining to just about every aspect of American history, but this one was oddly unique. First off, it’s right in the middle of the city… literally. Surrounded by tall buildings and businesses on every corner. Most historical places we have gone to are usually set apart from commercial development and are also generally preserved intact as to the events that gave it the historical importance. Neither was the case here… the site was not preserved as to the appearance that it had at the time of the Alamo Battle, nor was it preserved as a complete entity, since only a small fraction of the Alamo complex was actually preserved. The actual Alamo chapel was reconstructed to it’s appearance prior to the battle ( the actual chapel was at the time of the battle, already in ruins and had no roof) , and in addition to the small portion of the complex that was saved, additional buildings such as a modern gift shop, information center, library, and museum we added to the small section of property that was saved and set aside, somewhat taking away from the historical preservation of the property. All this was such a contrast to the atmosphere inside the reconstructed chapel where they wanted to convey the feeling of a “shrine” to the battle… no photography or loud talk… and don’t touch the walls or anything else. In contrast to the whole “shrine” reverence thing… it’s had to imagine that the courtyard where most of the battle took place, and most of the Texans made their last stand and died… is now the commercial street zone mostly occupied by Ripley’s amusements… go figure. Perhaps years ago many wrong decisions were made as to preservation, that could not be undone… really kinda sad that the importance of this site was so belittled in years past and it has become what it is today. But that’s just my impression of the site and how it went from what is once was, to what it is today.

The Movie set reproduction of the Alamo is much more historically accurate and reminisce of the real Alamo as it existed at the time of the battle. Locate in Brackettville, Texas, about 2 hours west of San Antonio.

Life’s Riddles.

A friend of mine got me thinking….
Things my parents taught me:
About Religion - “You better pray that comes out of the carpet.” (my mother) Kinda of a 50/50 tossup thing… sometimes I guess God had better things to do then save my butt.
About Logic - “Because I said so that's why.” (both parents) Kinda an absolute thing… do not question.
About Irony - “Keep crying and I'll give you something to cry about.” (both parents) Kinda of a “For sure thing”
About Wisdom - “When you get to my age you'll understand.“ (my father) Would have been easier for him just to tell me.
About Justice - “One day you'll have kids and I hope they turn out just like you.” (my mother) Now you know the rest of that story
About Women - “If I only knew  then (when I was younger), what I know now”  (my father) 100% true!!!

About Punishment - “Don’t run, It only makes it worse” (my mother saying, my father chasing) also 100% true.

About Food - “You’re gonna sit there until you eat it all” (Liver & Onion night, as well as many others) is it bedtime yet?

About Advise – When you’re young… older folks always give you advise you’ll never take

So, what did I learn from all of this?

Religion – It’s my carpet too, so I’ll have to clean it, replace it, or live with it. Living with it it never a good option.

Logic – If it sounds good to me… that’s all that matters…. period! Nuf said!

Justice – Justice is indeed blind. Applies to everything.

Advise – You try just like your parents… give good advise to kids that will never be taken. Naturally!

Food – I can pretty much eat what I want… whenever I want. Life is sweet. but 20 pounds heavier.

Punishment – Probably not enough of it today… kids are out of control. Spanking not allowed? … oh… please… A Time Out”

Wisdom – Eventually you learn how to avoid trouble…. eventually…. mostly…. sometimes. Hopefully.

Women -  Once you “know it”… it’s usually too late to do anything about it! Now matter how you look at it!

Irony – Once you “know it” … and then get out of it…. you’ll still do the same thing over and over again… with the same results. Then…some how think that would turn out differently. Go figure. Relationships 101

This next part is for MENS EYES ONLY….  so all wives please read no further. Thank you.

And in a strange turn of events… much to the dismay of husbands everywhere…. wives, when mad, have discovered that their long coveted practice of giving us the silent treatment, when they are mad, is playing exactly into our wishes… it’s now “never quit talking about it” that is being deployed as the number one tactic… usually coupled with a small bit of hopeful silence just to lull husbands into a false sense of security… before the barrage of talking starts again… which is finally broken when we get out of our easy chair, turn off the Tv, go outside a do something. Or maybe we are just too far away to hear it anymore. Here’s a hint guys… there should always be a visible written list… make sure it especially includes all the “little things”  that have been piling up. It’s usually good for you to make a list… she’ll add to it… be maybe not as much as if she had written it from scratch. Wishful thinking, I think. Start doing the little things first… cross then them off as you complete them with a red marker, so it’s easy to see that you are making good headway. A little “whew” and a bit of sweat (or water) on the forehead & brow helps with the “whew” thing. An occasional “slight dizzy spell” will earn you a little rest… as will the back ache, headache, knee hurts, leg hurts, or I’m short of breath thing… but don’t over do it. Laying on your back while fixing something is always a good source for resting while working… <CAUTION> … just don’t get caught falling asleep… and if you do there’s always the “I guess I didn’t sleep too good last night thing”. Never use the same excuse, scratch that… never use the same “reason” too often… remember, the wife’s memory is much longer than yours. CRS is now viewed as an “excuse”… and while sometimes completely valid… it is still no longer accepted. You can always  “try” to be smarter, plan ahead… make your own list (kinda like the old saying that I rather find something to do, look busy, rather than being told what to do). But even this will come under suspicion after a while. Another good thing… when the wife is working around the house… it’s always… ALWAYS… a good idea for you to go find something… anything… to do or fix… ( and not just sit in front of the Tv or Pc )…. and try to avoid the entire “mad/can’t quit talking/silent treatment thing”.  By the way… Let me know how that works out for you.

My wife / his wife…. you read it didn’t you… you were suppose to stop at the top… but you read it anyway… shame on you. Now what do we do?  Guess it’s back to the praying thing… yep, I know… 50/50 … and he has better things to do.
