Shot in Texas!

040103cowboy_shooting_one_gun_md_clr_prv I guess if you’re gonna play in Texas… sooner or later you’re gonna get shot! That’s right…Shot! Stay here long enough and you’re gonna get shot! … it’s a fact of Texas life. It took me 4 months to feel the awful pain of that well known Texas tradition… and it finally happen today… I got shot in the but-tox… yet, right in the old keester. And I gotta say… please excuse the language, I tried to clean it up… “Damn, that hurt like hell !” So I left the doctors office with not only the worst sinus infection I’ve ever had, but also with a decided limp. I’ve been shot a lot of places… but never in Texas. The immediate effect was somewhat beneficial… my butt hurt so bad that I was at least for a few moments able to forget how bad my face, eyes, and ears hurt from the sinus infection. With new Rx scripts meds in hand, I limped to the pharmacy. After 7 days of  875mg of Augmentin yielded no positive results, it was now replaced with Azithromycin, hydrocodone, fluticasone, and a shot in the buttocks of steroids that should make me feel like Joe Montana in his prime. I say that because we were at the doctors office in what Shelly calls the “Joe Room”. Photos of Joe etc and a photo of our doctor and Joe. A great room for Shelly… but… ”butt”… not such great memories for… that’s where I got shot in the butt…. literally. Now several hours later and my lower back side has recovered, somewhat… and I’m hopeful that the new meds will clear up the infection real soon. I remember a few days ago when my face hurt so bad… I said … “if I’m gonna die…. just shoot me now”! TE06 Funny how those little thoughts and the little things we say kiddingly have a way of becoming reality. One thing I haven’t lost during this whole sinus thing is a sense of humor… somewhat dampened… somewhat tattered… but still there at least for some small percentage of the time. The original treatment must have worked a least a little… I’m going house crazy for being cooped up several days. So here’s to getting better real soon. Hope getting shot in the butt was worth it. No doubt from this time forward I’ll always think of my experience and that of Mr. Gump’s… since we both got shot in the But-tox! … and I didn’t even get any ice cream! Vanilla is both our favorite flavor! [hint…hint]. Later yall!

What was I thinking?

Yall have hear the song, but have you ever heard the Houston version?

Goes like this….

.

Loaded up the Rv, and drove to the Campground,

got there too early, and couldn’t get in yet,

now I’m sitting in the heat, just sweatin’ my ass off,

What was I Thinking?

.

Got to my site, did all of the hookups,

went to see the bears, but they were all gone now,

got there too late, the kids are a yellin’,

What was I Thinking?

.

Waited for the hayride, standing there sweatin’,

flagged down the staff, to see what was the problem,

read the schedule wrong, we’re here on the wrong day,

What was I Thinking? ….  Oh… What was I Thinking?

.

Went to sign up, to sing at Karaoke,

didn’t read the signs, and got there too late,

now I have to watch, instead of me singin’,

What was I Thinking?

.

Went for a swim, and took along my beer,

thought it would be great, to swim drinking my brew,

I’m drinkin’ away, and told I couldn’t do it,

What was I Thinking?

.

Drove my golf cart, like a rodeo cowboy,

get out of my way, I’m a real fast rider,

staff pulled me over, and now we’re all a walkin’,

What was I Thinking?  …  What was I Thinking?

.

Party all night, with the music a blearin’,

talking real loud, we filled the air with laughter,

told about “quite time”, and now the party’s over,

What was I Thinking?

.

Saw all the rules, read them completely,

they weren’t for me, so I ignored them all day,

staff told me again, I couldn’t do my thing,

What was I Thinking?

.

Found the camp manager, got right in her face,

told her the rules, were just not my style,

she asked me to leave, and take my whole family,

What was I Thinking? …  What was I Thinking?

.

Driving back home, another lost vacation,

Don’t want to camp, with all of those darn rules,

I want to do, what ever I want to,

I want to do it, when ever I want to,

What was I Thinking?

.

Heading back to home, the kids are a screamin’,

happens every time, where ever we go to,

Why can’t we do, what ever we want to,

What was I Thinking?

Oh … What was I Thinking?

Oh … What … were… we… thinking?

Yep … “The Houston Version”…

Secondary Job Assignment

Job Assignments and Goals

#1 Be semi retired part of the year, fully retired the rest of the time. Have fun and experience new things, see new places, meet new people, and avoid the same old, same old, as much as possible.

#2 Seasonal Cast member at Disney World in Orlando. Since 2005 it was a great experience.

Disney World Seasonal Cast Member

Full - time Rving ( or Snowbirds ) and being Disney Seasonal Cast Members was a great combination! We have been seasonal cast members since 2005... alas, with the change in Disney rules & policy (eff:Sept 2011) it looks like we will not be able to continue at Disney. Even though we were available to work this past year for 7 months, during which time we made ourselves available to work for 650 hours, we only got scheduled for 70 hours work in 7 months. The new requirements for minimum yearly hours means we would have leave the company by no choice of our own. So the decision has be made for us. It was nice while it lasted. Possible positive change for the better that would allow us to continue to be Seasonal Cast members… doubtful.

#3 Activities and Arts & Crafts Director at Campgrounds & Rv Resorts. Family & Snowbirds. Currently in Texas… Don’t ask me… I don’t know… it’s where the wind blow us this year. Having a good time with only one minor situation. See new project below for details. Outlook for successful conclusion of project goals… less than acceptable… but we have to try.

Behavioral psychology project / study.

May 2011 to present

Learn how to deal with the high percentage of individuals from the Houston area that seem to be totally indifferent to "Southern Hospitality"... "Texas Hospitality" ... or any other form of social acceptable "Hospitality" or "Common Courtesy". Lack of Common Sense also seems to be more than frequent behavioral pattern. We will study all the many negative patterns of the malcontents to see if there is any better way to deal with them. Prospects of achieving goal... less than 10%. Reward - No Pay, just self mental preservation. Note: it would be easier if they just wore a sign "malcontent"... yes , much easier to be mentally prepared for their abusive nature... or avoid them completely... cause the more you try to help them, the more argumentative they want to be. Research has shown so far that this type of individual is localized to the Houston metro area, and the rest of Texas lays no claim to kin-hood with them.

So there you have it… Job Assignments and Goals. The only one that is truly 100% important is #1. Everything else is secondary.

Drought Corn

They say a picture is worth 1,000 words. Less than 1 inch of rain in 7 months. 630,000 acres of dead crops just in Waller County. Corn dead in the fields.

Yes, we have no rain…

Yes, we have no rain, we have no rain for today…

yes, we have no rain, we have no rain now for months.

Texas is turning into a windblown dust bowl with the “exceptional drought” that has last ten months with no end in sight. Livestock is being sold off and shipped to out of state, crops are dead in the fields, and water sources are drying up fast and triple digit temps post the worst heat and drought in Texas history. When we first arrived here we saw all the corn fields fresh and green, all around the campground for miles and miles. Then about 18” tall, the promise and outlook was good for a good crop of sweet delicious corn. We slowly watch it brown and die over the next two months. Now mostly black and leafless, the withered stalks look like something from a disaster movie. All crops have met the same fate here with few exceptions. Truly a sad picture to see. Ranchers and farmers loosing their livestock, their crops, and their land. The rest of the report:

Just another example of the weather and climate conditions that are going to change as the Earth beings another planetary cycle which will begin on December 21, 2012, when all the planets in our solar system from a alignment and cross the galactic plane of the milky way galaxy. This happen only only every 26,000 years and marks the being of changes in the Earth’s dynamics. Sound a little familiar? It just so happens at scientists and geologists have many facts to show the climactic changes that have occurred on Earth going back 100’s of thousands years… and the cycles of those changes that occur like clockwork, just like the seasons. Smaller cycles (like the seasons), contained in ever increasingly larger cycles, like the cycles that mark the galactic alignment every 26,000 years. They know what the Earth is heading for, which will eventually lead to another ice age as it has many times in the past. Not that we will see it in our lifetime, but we will see the changes in climate that for several thousand years, will lead up to it. Most noticeably the severity of weather occurrences. More severe drought, floods, and storms… hotter summers, colder winters. But that’s another story.

Remembering & Missing…

Life is but a series of moments and memories. It may be hard for some to choose the ones that you have enjoyed the most… but it’s pretty easy for me. Here’s a few photos of the many moments that I enjoy reliving over and over. If you could ever freeze some moments in time and go back to relive those days over and over… well… I’d certainly have many to choose from. Some are good, some are great, and some are just “Magical”. Here’s a glimpse of just a couple.

Snowbird Alert!

Snowbird Alert!
Looking for a change of scenery for a new place to winter. Check out Gulf Pines KOA located in Milton Florida. Conveniently located right off I-10 at Hwy 87, it tucked away in the Florida panhandle, just 18.5 miles north of the white sandy beaches of Santa Rosa Island and close to Gulf Breeze, Fort Walton Beach, and Destin. Gulf Pines may be the place for you. The New Managers… Steve & Willa Maxwell… have a great campground not only for the summer vacations and stop over travelers… but have a great place to build up a snowbird community for the winter months. A great place to spend time with old friends, make new friends, and still be close (about 50 minutes) to the friends that are still in DeFuniak Springs. But you’ll be much closer to all the things you love about being in this area of Florida, without the long drive to find civilization. Closer, more convenient, and filled with lots of people with the same snowbird interests. Steve & Willa know just how to cater to snowbirds and what they are looking for in a winter home. We are planning to be there, perhaps for the winter of 2012-2013, and have a new winter home for years to come. And yes… to those that know us… we will be planning to do all the snowbird activities and have fun with yall. We just can’t be there this winter. But I’m sure that Steve & Willa will get the ball rolling for a great snowbird destination this year, and it will get better and better with each passing winter. So check it out… hope it all works out great and will hopefully see yall there. A change is in the wind… and calling for you to go to Gulf Pines.

Yes there is a 100% chance that you will experience numerous people that will make you ask the question… “Where did these people come from, and how soon will they go back?”

While this reporter has talked to many people that have lived in numerous areas of Texas, there seems to be an underlying personality taint that seems to be predominate of Metro-Houston residents… not all, but a high percentage never the less. While we can only state the facts as they are shown to be true… there does seem to be a very high percentage of guests visiting here from the Metro-Houston area that exemplify the above taints to perfection. We have met a lot of nice people, but this is over shadowed by the anything but courteous, ever complaining, malcontents, that seem to think that the rules never apply to them, and time frames for amenities, as well as the staff as a whole, should be at their beckoned call. Another “normal” guest summed it all up… and I quote:

[ This was a response from one guest to another on a discussion on Facebook for the campground, when one guest couldn’t get their way and was openly condemning the campground and staff, and fighting the rules as they applied to them, and another guest answered the challenge.]

"No" is the Answer. When "NO" is the answer, it is not a welcome response. Do you ever want to do something and the answer is "NO"? Do you get a Attitude with a capital "A" when you can't get your way? Do you expect that the rules shouldn't apply to you? Do you think it's all about you? Do you just want to turn your kids loose without supervision? Do you want to party until 2 am? Do you want to do whatever you want, whenever you want? Do you get upset when others have to say something to your kids because you weren't supervising them? Do you think that courtesy is only one way to you, and not an consideration from you to others? Do you want to be argumentative when you can't get your way? Do you always consider yourself right, despite the rules? Do you blame others for your attitude? Do you fault them for not being friendly when you act like a mindless malcontent that relentlessly and constantly are clueless, careless, self centered, selfish, argumentative, and have a total lack of courtesy to anyone else? Do you think others are rude to you when you can't get your way acting the way you do? I'm sure everyone thinks that this isn't you. Some of you would be wrong, and you wonder why you feel others are rude to you! They tell you "NO", you can't do what you want, it's a safety issue or against the rules, and you get mad, and get a attitude, and think who ever told you "No", is rude. If this happens to you a lot, examine yourself, and think about why this is happening to you. Maybe you could do one of two things. Change your ways cause you are the problem. Yes, "No" is the answer to you. Grow up, be an adult, act your age, be responsible, or please go somewhere else for your vacation. My family and friends that come here often don't really care to have you around us, being miserable, and making everyone around you miserable. I feel bad for the staff that has to deal with you and be the blunt of your abusive nature just because you can't get your way. If you don't like following the rules and acting with any degree of courtesy towards others, please be happily miserable some place else. This will not doubt be a blessing to you, certainly a blessing to other families on vacation looking to have a good time, and a God send to the staff that has to endure your abusive nature.

Facts are facts… and I report them and call them as I see it. But to myself, other Texan’s ( from other parts of the state), and everyone from other states… there is something fundamentally wrong with a lot of folks from the Metro-Houston Area. Learning to deal with them on a daily basis is quite the challenge.

Their attitude was best summed up with a statement that was once said to me… “We pay a lot of money to be here ($34 a night for a campsite), and the staff is here to serve us”… we’ll call you when we need you”. My silent thought was… “okay” … let me know how that works out for you! It’s a campground, not a “Scandals” all inclusive vacation resort, or a time share, for several hundred dollars a day… it’s a campground. Some people need to get real… but, maybe that’s just my opinion. Houston’s right, and the rest of us are all wrong… probably not!

This is not intended to offend the “normal and nice” people if the area… just to those deserving malcontents that choose to try to make everyone else’s experience miserable and enjoy harassing everyone around them… especially the staff that can’t just tell them off like any other guest would. So if you’ve never been to Houston… be fore warned… so you know what to expect! Lots of rude, crude, and inconsiderate people. And that’s the Undisputed Facts!

Happy Place…

Everyone should have a Happy Place… so when the same old, same old, wears a little thin… you can go to your Happy Place.

Where it’s always sunny and 70°… the sky is blue… the trees are green and beautiful… the wildflowers are blooming everywhere with a burst of colors… the birds are singing… and you can actually hear the breeze through the trees… butterflies fill the air… you can smell the honeysuckle and jasmine… and a bunny hops across the lawn and a deer runs across the field… yes… we could all use a Happy Place” when where you are at is “none” of the above. Oh… almost forgot… where quiet time runs 24 hours a day! … everyday!

Here’s what my Happy Place looks like…

Diet Pills

Yep… another diet remedy. For those that wish to not only lose weight, but also satisfy that craving. Enjoy that which you crave the most… you can see it, smell it, touch it, and taste it… tiny little morsels of delight… all in a handy blister pack that goes anywhere, so you can satisfy that craving anytime you want. Once only available by prescription… now also available at your favorite local coffee shop… which works out very well… since they are not only recommended to be taken with coffee… but coffee will also enhance the enjoyment. They can be swallowed, with considerably less enjoyment… or chewed, or simply dissolved in your mouth. I personally prefer the “enhanced sensory taste” method. Close your eyes, block out all sounds, concentrate on taste and smell… take a bite and while holding the remaining morsel right at the base of your nose for the best sense of smell ( breathe in slowly ), now use slow small chewing motions while moving the delectable morsel of delight slowly around your mouth to ensure that all the taste buds are properly stimulated. Slight moaning in a low tone is socially acceptable, and the delightful smile on your face will not doubt show others that your are truly enjoying the moment. A “little” bit of heaven. Just gives me a chill to think about it. Ahhh. While it is recommended that you consume only two per day, additional doses will only cause minimal side effects… but they can be extremely addicting… so use caution. Handy blister packs are sold in single use packs, handy multi-packs or 12 (that’s a dozen, if it sounds familiar), or by the family pack of 36, or vacation packs of 144… that’s 12 dozen, for those that haven’t done the math. So there’s today’s health tip. Enjoy!
